The largest conference for urinary continence was hed in Glasgow, UK, this year. Urologist Stelios Voulgaris was in attendance and brings you some of the most important news.

Intravesical injection of hyaluronic acid for recurrent UTIs

According to a Milanese study, using intravesical instillations of hyaluronic acid in women suffering from recurrent urinary tract infection improved the symptoms for 75% of patients. The treatment lasts 8 weeks and includes one instillation a week.

Measurement of CRP if persistent urgency after prostatectomy

This study from the University of Taipei in Taiwan showed that men who have higher CRP (a blood test that indicates inflammation) are more likely to experience persistent urgency after prostatectomy.

Antibiotics can help with urge incontinence

This study from London University shows that women who have only white blood cells in their urine but a negative urine culture benefit from the administration of antibiotics. The symptoms of urge incontinence and urinary frequency are resolved more quickly.

Botox in the prostate?

Researchers from Brazil and Venezuela have shown that injections of Botox into the prostate significantly improved voiding in all patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
