Question 10
Brachytherapy is an "up close" radical treatment of localized prostate cancer using radioactive seeds implanted permanently in the prostate - without needing to make an incision in the patient at all. It just involves a short surgery of less than an hour. While it has exactly the same (excellent) results with radical prostatectomy and external beam radiation therapy, it has fewer side effects, for example, no incontinence is observed (<1%) and most patients maintain their erections after treatment. However, this method is not appropriate for all patients with prostate cancer. The urologist specializing in Brachytherapy will guide you in your decision.
