Yesterday I suddenly saw blood in my urine. I feel no pain and have no other problems. Should I be concerned?

Question 6

The appearance of blood in the urine (the medical term is haematuria) is a potentially serious situation, especially when it is not accompanied by pain (painless hematuria). An appointment with a urologist is essential. The doctor will do some tests (urinalysis, ultrasound, cystoscopy) to determine the cause. The principal causes of haematuria are cancer (of the bladder or kidneys), urinary tract infection (UTI) or stones.
