Urologist Stelios Voulgaris participated in the 8th Macedonian Urology Symposium held on 3rd-5th November 2011 in Thessaloniki.
He took part in an interesting debate on the treatment of prostate cancer recurrence after external beam radiation. There are 4 options for a patient who failed external radiation.
- Brachytherapy
- Cryotherapy
- Prostatectomy
- HIFU (high localized ultrasound energy)
Mr. Voulgaris argued the case for Brachytherapy. It has been shown by many studies abroad that the solution of Brachytherapy for cancer recurrence after external beam radiation is very reliable. The control of cancer is comparable with the other methods, but urinary incontinence after Brachytherapy are farh rarer.
